Your Daily Dose for April 21, 2008
Over 200 performers freeze in place at the exact same second for five minutes at New York's Grand Central Station. The scene was performed by a group of New York performers who call themselves Improv Everywhere. Improv Everywhere is a group of people who cause scenes of chaos and joy in public places. The group's Web site states, "Improv Everywhere is, at its core, about having fun. We’re big believers in organized fun. We get satisfaction from coming up with an awesome idea and making it come to life. In the process we bring excitement to otherwise unexciting locales and give strangers a story they can tell for the rest of their lives. We’re out to prove that a prank doesn’t have to involve humiliation or embarrassment; it can simply be about making someone laugh, smile, or stop to notice the world around them" They have performed over 70 different "acts" which they call "missions", including everything from creating a huanted house on a working New York subway car during Halloween to staging a scene with a fake hypnotist in Central Park. As a former Chicago improvisor and comedy actor*, I'd love to do something like this. Have your people call my people. Anyone else?
*Telling jokes in front of my bathroom mirror qualifies me as a comedy actor...right?

No. And tattling on your brother didn't make you a reporter either, but that didn't stop you from putting it on your resume, did it? :D
