drug discount cards
June 9, the county will introduce a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county has signed a contract to make free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.
The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. An estimated 90 percent of the county’s pharmacies will accept the NACo card, and a national network of more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies also will honor it. fashion shows at marsh creek
June 11, at noon Marsh Creek Country Club opens its doors to visitors and summer residents to enjoy an afternoon out viewing local fashions from selected boutiques and specialty stores. The shows will be held on the second Wednesday of each month. June’s theme is Beach Party and will feature casual, cruise and beach wear from the Sunshine Shop. A special guest will show you affordable copies of celebrity Jewelry that will delight you. There will be door prizes and gift certificates. Pre-set menu will include a special entree, assorted rolls, beverage and dessert for $16 per person. Piano entertainment will be provided by Douglas Anderson School of Performing Arts. book donations
June 14, 9:30 to noon, donate books at the Bartram Trail Branch Library. Donated books will go to needy families through Habitat for Humanity, soldiers serving in Iraq and to monthly book sales to help raise money for the library. All donations are tax deductible. vettes at the village
June 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. View more than 100 classic, late model, hot rod and custom Corvettes at the World Golf Village’s Walk of Champions for the tenth annual “Vettes at the Village”. An awards ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. for Best of Show and Peoples Choice awards. anglers for a cure
June 21, 5:30 a.m. join Anglers for a cure in an inshore fishing tournament, Sisters Creek Marina, Heckscher Dr. at the Intracoastal Waterway, Jacksonville to raise funds to support the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance. $2,500 in cash prizes and trophies for 1st - 5th places. June 23-24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Guana Tolomato Mantanzas Research Reserve (GTM) will host a free teacher geology workshop for elementary school educators at the GTM Research Reserve Environmental Education Center, 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach. Join Professional Geologists and Earth and Science Education Specialists, Gail and Betty Gibson to learn about coastal geology and the ways you can use minerals to teach science in your classroom. helping hands
June 27 at 11 a.m., The Helping Hands of St. Johns County will meet at St. Johns Golf and Country Club. The group is looking for donations of used, clean blue jeans in any size, that can be taken apart and sewn into bags for disabled veterans. The Club meets on the last Friday of the month. intergenerational bridge camp
June 19-27, The PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach offers intergenerational bridge camp to bridge the bridge playing gap by bringing the greatest sport of the mind to the next generation. All pairs that register must include at least one junior player between the ages of 10-26 and currently attending school. Pairs may also consist of two juniors players. All junior players receive free bridge text books. Last day of mini-camp will be a tournament for a trophy. Program is fully funded and cosponsored by the ACBL and the ACBL Educational Foundation, so there is no cost to participants. Pre-registration is required. host families
EF Educational Homestay Program is a non-profit organization that works with students from other countries who want to learn english as a second language is looking for families to volunteer to host students for three weeks this summer. Host families are asked to provide a bed, an extra plate at the table and transportation to and from a central pick up location. The program keeps the students busy during the week days with group activities. Youth from host families are invited to accompany the students on field trips and earn 60 community service hours.
