Donated books will go to needy families through Habitat for Humanity, soldiers serving in Iraq and to monthly book sales to help raise money for the library. All donations are tax deductible. vettes at the village
Today, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. view more than 100 classic, late model, hot rod and custom Corvettes at the World Golf Village’s Walk of Champions for the tenth annual “Vettes at the Village”. An awards ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. for Best of Show and Peoples Choice awards. Registration for Corvette owners is $40 and will be open from 7 to 10 a.m. The first 100 registrants receive a goodie bag, event t-shirt and a dash plaque. arnold chiari malformation
Arnold Chiari is a neurological disease called tonsilar herniation of the cerebellum which is the bottom part of the brain that abnormally descends out of the skull and places pressure on the brain and spinal cord. Without proper diagnosis, this disease can lead to permanent nerve damage, chronic pain, depression and paralysis. Governor Charlie Crist has signed a Proclamation awareness for this month. anglers for a cure
June 21, 5:30 a.m. join Anglers for a cure in an inshore fishing tournament, Sisters Creek Marina, Heckscher Dr. at the Intracoastal Waterway, Jacksonville to raise funds to support the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance. $2,500 in cash prizes and trophies for 1st - 5th places. Competition format is a triple challenge combined weigh-in of one each, redfish, speckled sea trout and flounder. Registration open until June 20. The Limelight Theatre announced the naming of the main stage theatre, The M. Raymond and Linda C. Matuza Main Stage. As part of the theatre’s continuing fundraising program, the Naming Campaign continues to be successful in raising funds to help cover the costs of the newly renovated building at 11 Old Mission Avenue. Linda and Ray Matuza are the most recent donors to the Limelight Theatre’s Naming Program. The Matuza Main Stage will open under its new name July 25 with the production of Perfect Wedding, a comedy farce by Robin Hawdon. June 23 and 25, 10 a.m. to noon the Trout Creek Park Pavilion, 6795 Collier Road, Orangedale is offering a unique class led by William Chase. Using palm fronds participants learn to make beautiful decorative palm baskets. The palm leaf is folded, knotted and tied. The St. Johns Council on Aging is in need of volunteers for numerous duties: The morning program needs a lead volunteer to teach “Brain Gym”. An innovative program that focuses on helping seniors work with their brain. Training is provided. Volunteers are also needed to call Bingo on Tuesday afternoons, work in the Sunshine Bus office, and to deliver Meals on Wheels for a Monday route. helping hands
June 27 at 11 a.m., The Helping Hands of St. Johns County will meet at St. Johns Golf and Country Club. The group is looking for donations of used, clean blue jeans in any size, that can be taken apart and sewn into bags for disabled veterans. The Club meets on the last Friday of the month. intergenerational bridge camp
June 19-27, The PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach offers intergenerational bridge camp to bridge the bridge playing gap by bringing the greatest sport of the mind to the next generation. All pairs that register must include at least one junior player between the ages of 10-26 and currently attending school. Pairs may also consist of two juniors players. All junior players receive free bridge text books. Last day of mini-camp will be a tournament for a trophy. Program is fully funded and cosponsored by the ACBL and the ACBL Educational Foundation, so there is no cost to participants. Pre-registration is required.
