Get out and VOTE today!
We're interested to hear your thoughts on the candidates and ballot items for this year's election. There have been some blogs in the past couple of weeks touching on this subject, but with the election currently underway, we thought we'd refresh things and get a discussion going. We may even print some of your responses in this week's issue of the Sun. So who or what should (or shouldn't) your neighbors vote for? Why/why not? (This applies to all the candidates for all positions, and all ballot items. And remember...this is just healthy discussion, not a Friars Club Roast or anything.) Mr. Abbatiello seems like a decent guy and I am sure that he means well, but he and his supporters continue to unfairly portray Ms. Stevenson as a lackey of the development community. In the past four years, Cyndi has worked diligently to balance the interests of all of her constituents. She has encouraged smart growth and extracted significant concessions out of developers requiring them to provide the necessary infrastructure before development can occur. Cyndi is clearly the best choice in this race. Her education and experience will be a tremendous asset for the County over the next four years. Submitted by Mike on Wed, 10/22/2008 - 4:54pm.
Up until now, I would probably vote for Cyndi Stevenson because I have never heard of Al Abbatiello. I have actually seen Cyndi campaign signs along most roads in Northwest SJC but I haven't noticed any Al signs. I'm very interested in the HOPEWELL PUD project that has recently came to light for me and my fellow Roberts Road/Greenland/HWY 210 area neighbors. Mrs. Stevenson attended a recent community information meeting at Cunningham Creek Elementary in an "unofficial" capacity and declined to comment because she didn't have "legal counsel" present. I have been researching both the PUD project and those that will be voting to support or reject the plan to bring the "City of Hope" to our residential neighborhood. I really don't understand WHY my representative would show up and be reluctant to support the community that she is supposed to be representing and have no comment. I know that there is politics involved in everything, especially for those that choose to get involved, and I can appreciate that. But I do expect a thought or comment from my representative without having to hide behind "legal counsel" before she answers. That doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy and it makes me want to believe some of the statements I've read about her relationships with Developer friends and their money. It makes me feel like she is wondering where the money is instead of what the people want. I can tell you, our community DOES NOT WANT this HOPEWELL PUD project to be allowed here. The traffic on Roberts Road is already at its maximum capacity and adding a "City of Hope" of this size will only cause major problems for those of us that chose this bedroom community as our home. Hopefully both Mrs. Stevenson AND Mr. Abbatiello will show up for the next HOPEWELL PUD informational meeting at Cunningham Creek Elementary School on OCTOBER 27th at 6:00pm. Personally, I want to hear what the person that is representing me, or at least wants to, has to say about this unwanted expansion project. |

The reason I support Al Abbatiello and his campaign is simple. Here is someone who is looking out for the best interest of the people not big money or special interests.
That fact in itself alone is worth consideration when going to the polls!
I want my commissioner to represent me and my family, I want him to look out for us not some developers $$$ future deal that is going to leave me stranded in regards to infrastructure, schools and the quality of life I came here for in the first place.
Al has continuously worked for local community efforts and believes it's the only way to do business in an honorable way. Good for him! I truly admire his stand! His campaign funds are small yet his integrity is huge and that is something that can not be questioned, no matter what his opponent wants people to believe, we need more people like him and I believe it would make our local form of government a true means of governing locally!
Al's vision includes a long term strategic plan and the true input of citizens' concerns because we need to know where we are now and where we see ourselves in 20 years down the road if we want this county to be the best it can be. It's basic and simple and definetely needs to be addressed.
Creekside High is hosting a forum this Wednesday at 7 pm, weather permitting, it's a great way to meet all the candidates, I hope you will have a chance to meet everyone.
